on a positive note

love

Oh, hey! Welcome to another week. We’ve made it. But before you decide that it all just may be too much to bear, and you’d much rather abandon the day for the beach or a quiet respite underneath your covers. Don’t forget to do the following….

Breathe.

If you feel overwhelmed, breathe. It will calm you and release the tensions.

If you are worried about something coming up, or caught up in something that already happened, breathe. It will bring you back to the present.

If you are moving too fast, breathe. It will remind you to slow down, and enjoy life more.

Breathe, and enjoy each moment of this life. They’re too fleeting and few to waste.

Make it a good one…

Hello, Weekend!

Hey guys! So have we all gotten used to this crazy weather? Raise your rain soaked hands if you were caught in puddles and downpour this week. The caveat of course is that it’s Friday, and this weekend, apart from mentally decompressing and catching up on errands, I am beyond excited (and anxious) to be taking a dance class at the Alvin Ailey Dance School! A friend and I will be  taking a Horton class, which if you take a brief glance at the vid and pics, you know your body is in for something special. Can’t wait. A few links for you before I go…!!

I fell in love with By Way of Brooklyn a ways back when I’d click on a link and jaw drop in awe at the beautiful creativity. A transplant herself, Sarah Kim & her talented team, photographer  Minnow Park and Evan Gubernick transform the stories of those who live, work and play in the borough into a work of art. Literally. From L.A. to Florida to the boogie down Bronx, click over to see more who’ve found their way.

Return of the Curls

chai's fro

It’s been a few weeks since FRO’s been back to her curly kinky glory, and if I were to be honest – a large part of me breathed a huge sigh of relief after that first wash…watching & waiting as the sleek straight strands shrunk away to leave me with what I’ve sooooo grown to love. Yes, straight hair has it’s perks (ponytail central….!!), but clearly the fun for me all lies in the ebb and flow of whichever direction my curls go. I’s so happy.

I’ve been dabbling in a few new hair goodies + sticking to, I guess what you’d call an old favorite; Camille Rose really is my hair’s ish. We’re pic heavy today because we are simply loving this entire combo right here:

I guess the other giddy part of me just wanted to show off my fancy new & smooth ends! Nothing beats enjoying the ease and manageability of your hair after a trim. Nothing. Wait…well, maybe this does.

On The Night Stand

june books

Once upon a time I used to be that girl. That one who couldn’t tear her fingers or pry her eyes from the text of the yummiest book she’d ever read. I used to gush about said books here  & there, than haul them away for safe keeping.

These days I’ve been leaning more towards the pillow and the keyboard as opposed to my first love. Now, apart from just how sad that  sounds in my head, it’s got to stop. So, above are my picks to help me get back into the good graces of the biblio clan. I miss my people.

Do you guys want to join? This month is the no-obligation back to curly book club, wherin you simply need to pick up a book and READ. Doesn’t matter what genre or length – what matters is that you take the time (at least 2 hours a week) to canoodle with a few pages, have an escape plan that doesn’t require you to use your PTO, and treat yourself.

Let me know what’s on your night stand? What stories are you loving?

Hello, Weekend!

curlyessence

Despite this week being a day short in terms of the number of treks to the office, it still felt rounded and bursting with nothing but work, life & hustle. & if I were to be completely honest a large part of me ( the stomach mainly) is still recuperating from a weekend binging on a mix of strawberry smoothies, oxtail platters, jerk chicken, and a raw food plate concoction just for good measure. The BAM Dance Africa Festival was beyond amazing, as were the folks who showed up to merry and enjoy the fun. A special wave + thank you goes out to a reader, Cindy for making me smile with her sweet words. Brooklyn will always have my heart for housing the good kind.

Today also marks not only the end of a month, but the finish line of my Blog Every Day in the Month of May. Now, did I accomplish said challenge?  The nutshell sings yes. In the end I felt challenged to share more in this space (that’s saying a lot for an introvert), think more clearly about where I want to take this blog in the future – and  simply reconnect with the joy of sharing with you guys what I’m digging, what FRO’s been up to and maybe even my latest jaunts around town.

So in case you missed, here are a few highlights from the Month of May :

>>> Ruby Woo stole my heart

>>> I share my Top 5 Favorite Blogs

>>> A women took to the camera for a length check vid!

>>> Became GFree and loving it (post TK on my daily diet!)
